A classic of naturism around Savona. Reach it from the main beach or by a rough path from Punta Crena; pale sand and turquoise water that would not look out of place in the Caribbean.

One of the best-known naturist beaches on the eastern Riviera. There is a long-established bathing establishment at the northern end, with the gulf of Sestri Levante on one side and the Portofino headland on the other.

A rocky, unspoilt corner reached on foot along the Punta Manara path. Low rocks surrounded by Mediterranean scrub — among the most secluded spots in Liguria.

The emblem of Ligurian naturism, inside the Cinque Terre park near Corniglia. Pebbles and shingle beneath a sheer cliff; the only ways in are a steep footpath or a boat.

Turbigo (Ticino)

A bank of the Ticino inside the Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino: leave the car at the end of via Tre Salti and carry on through the wood to the islet in the river. Sand and pebbles, used by naturists but with no official recognition — tolerated, so keep it discreet. No facilities.
Cassano d'Adda

A stretch of the Adda between Cassano and Rivolta d'Adda, half an hour from Milan: take the road to Rivolta, park beyond the railway bridge and walk down to the river on a path. It is a string of spots among trees and floodplain rather than one single beach, used by naturists at weekends. No official recognition: tolerated, so keep it discreet. No facilities.

A tongue of sand on the Sesia near Novara, between Milan and Turin. Walk in past the barrier; naturists have used this stretch for years.
Villafranca Piemonte (Pellice)

On the gravel bed of the river Pellice between Vigone and Villafranca Piemonte. Drop down to the riverbed through a poplar grove: a quiet, out-of-the-way corner where naturism is tolerated.
Carignano (Po)

On the banks of the Po south of Turin, near Carignano. Broad sandy gravel banks among riverside vegetation, used discreetly by naturists from Turin.
Cuneo (Gesso)

Inside the Gesso and Stura river park, small beaches along the Gesso stream reached from the cycle path. Natural surroundings at the foot of the Bisalta.
Chivasso (Orco)

A gravel islet in the middle of the river Orco, just before it joins the Po on the edge of Chivasso: you wade across a shallow arm of water to get there. The little beaches of the Orco, from Rivarolo down to Chivasso, are historic naturist spots in the Canavese area: no official recognition, an informal and tolerated practice, and quieter on weekdays. No facilities.

In the Bassona state nature reserve, between the mouth of the Bevano and Lido di Dante. A beach recognised for naturism, set between the San Vitale pine wood and the dunes near the river mouth.
Lido di Volano (Ferrara)

Inside the Po Delta park, a wild free beach behind a broad pine wood. A well-used stretch where naturism is tolerated, deep in the nature of the delta.
Trebbia, Piacenza
Authorised
A river beach on the gravel banks of the Trebbia — the most unspoilt river in Europe, according to Hemingway. An area recognised for naturism along the widest and most isolated gravel bars.
Fiume Setta, Sasso Marconi (Bologna)

A bank of sand and stones on the river Setta, with shaded stretches under the trees. Naturism has been practised here for years but is not authorised, and there have been checks in the past; the spot shifts from season to season, as the river redraws its bends over the winter. Take the road towards Piccolo Paradiso: once over the bridge turn immediately right into via Sirano and carry on for 600 metres to the lay-bys, using only the right-hand side to avoid a fine. Paths through the woods lead down to the river; at the water, head downstream.

Below the karst cliff of Duino Aurisina, between Trieste and Sistiana. White rock coves dropping into the Adriatic, a fixture for Trieste naturists since the 1970s.
Torrente Meduna, Zoppola

A wide bed of white stones and sand on the Meduna at Zoppola, in the Cellina-Meduna nature park. This is where people from Pordenone come to swim: shallow, clear water, plenty of room and easier access than from the Cordenons side. Naturism here is informal and has no official recognition, so it is tolerated and best kept discreet. No facilities.
I Filtri, Aurisina (Trieste)

A small pebble-and-rock inlet below the Trieste coast road, looked after by the Liburnia naturist association. From the end of via Piccard a steep flight of steps leads down to the sea; follow the shore north-west, and just past the little harbour a red «Zona Naturista FKK» sign marks the spot.

Between Bibione and Caorle, in the Brussa pine wood. A wide, wild free beach with a stretch long given over to naturism, screened by the vegetation behind it.

Italy's first naturist beach with facilities, authorised by council resolution in 2000. In the Litorale Romano park, almost 2 km of dunes and Mediterranean scrub, with services and a bar.

On the Rome shoreline, authorised for naturism in 2015 by a resolution of Fiumicino council. A quiet spot well away from the beach clubs, with clean water.
Sabbie Nere, Santa Marinella

Behind the castle of Santa Severa, with dark sand of volcanic origin. Officially recognised as a Naturist Oasis in 2024 by the Lazio Region and Santa Marinella council.
L'Arenauta, Gaeta

The famous «300 steps» beach between Sperlonga and Gaeta. A wide free beach deep in nature, with naturists using the more isolated stretches.

Between Marotta and Cesano, by the river mouth. Sand and smooth pebbles framed by wild vegetation; naturists have used the area discreetly for years.

One of the few beaches officially recognised for naturism on the island of Elba, since 2015. Dark sand and shingle, reached by a short scenic path or by boat.
Sassoscritto / Punta del Miglio, Livorno

In the pine wood at Marina di Bibbona, among the best-known naturist beaches on the Livorno coast. Naturism has been tolerated here for years, and the dunes give plenty of privacy.

Buca Rossa, Piombino

Close to the centre of Piombino, a rocky spot where the sand turns reddish at sunset. Used by naturists on the Baratti-Populonia headland.
Feniglia, Porto Ercole

In the protected Duna Feniglia reserve, near Monte Argentario. Near the pine wood there is a naturist beach that is both easy to reach and sheltered by the dunes.
Punta Combara, Livorno

A flat rock shelf on the Romito coast, just south of the Calignaia bridge: you climb down a stone stairway that is not signposted from the road. Livorno council designated it a naturist area in 2019, together with Punta del Miglio; it remains a free beach, open to everyone. There is no sand — you lie on the rock slabs, and water shoes are worth bringing. No facilities.
Spiaggia delle Tombe, Campo nell'Elba

A long stretch of dark pebbles and shingle broken up by rocks and coves, on the wild Costa del Sole between Fetovaia and Pomonte on the island of Elba. Campo nell'Elba council officially authorised naturism here in 2022. It can only be reached on foot: take path 112 from a lay-by on the main road, less than fifteen minutes away. Beautifully clear water, no facilities.

A sandy beach in protected dune country, inside the Lago di Burano state reserve (a WWF oasis). A long-standing Tuscan naturist stronghold: from the car park on the Aurelia road it is about twenty minutes' walk along the shore.
Torrente Diaterna, Firenzuola (Firenze)

A river beach in the mountains of the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines, at Scheggianico. Shingle and clear pools looked after by the Gruppo Diaterna; easy to reach, with parking in the lay-bys along the road.

A reservoir on the Tiber ringed by wooded hills, between Orvieto and Todi. Quiet, little-visited shores where naturism happens informally and discreetly.

At Stifone the emerald water of the Nera runs between rock walls in a striking little canyon. Secluded corners along the river are used informally by naturists.

The only naturist beach officially recognised by a public authority along the whole Italian Adriatic coast (since 2014). On the Costa dei Trabocchi, with pebbles and clean water, run by the Abruzzo naturist association.
Villa Fumosa, Scerne di Pineto

At Scerne di Pineto (Teramo), one of the few beaches in Abruzzo where naturism is accepted. A secluded shingle beach with no buildings, reached on foot through the railway underpass.
Città Sant'Angelo (Camping Sant'Angelo)

By the Sant'Angelo campsite on the Pescara shoreline. A quiet stretch used by naturists mainly in summer, sheltered behind the dune belt and the pine wood.
Mottagrossa – Punta Aderci, Vasto

A long, roomy pebble beach inside the Punta Aderci nature reserve, on one of the finest pieces of coast in Abruzzo. Easy to reach, and a regular haunt of A.N.A.B. naturists.
Punta Ferruccio, Ortona

A rocky shore with small shingle patches on the headland south of Lido Riccio, used by A.N.A.B. naturists for years. Access is middling: a rough road as far as the headland, then a scramble down over the rocks.

On the Riviera dei Gelsomini in the Locride, sandy coves sheltered by a rocky ridge. Recognised as a naturist area, one of the first to be made official in Calabria.
Isola di Capo Rizzuto

In the largest marine protected area in Italy, near Le Castella. Sandy coves and rocks in clear water, with some stretches used by naturists.
Santa Domenica, Ricadi (Vibo Valentia)

On the Costa degli Dei, a few kilometres from Tropea, a string of coves opening south-west below the Capo Vaticano headland. Naturism here is informal and not authorised, and happens along the most secluded stretches: park above, walk down the steps, then follow the shore southwards — the further you go, the quieter it gets. Bear in mind that the coast is subject to erosion and that checks have been reported.

At the tip of the Sorrento peninsula, facing the Faraglioni of Capri. A protected bay looked after by the FAI and one of the most striking on this coast; naturists use the secluded rocky sections.

In the Cilento national park and the Santa Maria di Castellabate marine protected area. Coves of rock and pebbles among pines and myrtle; naturists favour the isolated stretches.
Il Troncone, Marina di Camerota

Three coves running for about 400 metres, hidden by a rocky ridge, inside the Cilento national park. Naturist by council ordinance no. 80 of 21 April 2011: for years it was the only authorised naturist beach in mainland southern Italy. Large pebbles and coarse sand, with water that stays clean even in rough seas. No facilities.

A long wild stretch of dunes and pine wood north of Petacciato Marina: the naturist section is the part between the Mergolo and Tecchio streams, beyond Lido Eva as you look towards Vasto. A free beach with no facilities, backed by one of the few pine woods left on the Adriatic.

Spiaggia d'Ayala, Campomarino di Maruggio

On the Ionian coast near Taranto, beyond the d'Ayala pine wood among the dunes of Campomarino. One of the best-known naturist havens in Apulia, with crystal-clear water and plenty of space.
Punta della Suina, Gallipoli

In Salento, between Punta della Suina and Spiaggia degli Innamorati. Turquoise water, rocky headlands and coves in the pine wood; the naturist areas are on the rockier stretches.
Porto Selvaggio, Nardò

In the Porto Selvaggio nature park, among cliffs and fragrant pine wood. Naturists use the rocky sections near the Grotta del Cavallo, where the water is deep.

A small inlet between Polignano and Monopoli, near Torre Incina. A compact cove of rocks and pebbles, secluded and much loved by naturists on the Bari coast.
Vignanotica, Vieste

On the Gargano, between Mattinata and Vieste, set between white cliffs that drop straight into the sea. Pale shingle and emerald water, with some stretches used by naturists.
Termitosa, Castellaneta Marina

The only official naturist beach in Apulia: since 2024 an ordinance of Castellaneta council has set aside about 150 metres of shore for naturism, confirmed again for the summer of 2026. Fine golden sand, pine wood behind and shallow, clear water; it can only be reached on foot along the dirt tracks, or from the sea. Recognised by FENAIT.
Le Cesine, Vernole (Lecce)

A long sandy beach with dunes in front of the Le Cesine WWF oasis, a state nature reserve north of Otranto. The naturist stretch is in the most secluded part of the beach, beyond the back-dune pools; no facilities, and you walk in from the reserve car park.

A small cove of pebbles and rock near Cagliari, enclosed by cliffs, with clear water that is ideal for snorkelling. Access is by a steep path, and there are no facilities on site.
Porto Ferro, Sassari

A long sandy bay framed by dunes, pine wood and red headlands, close to Lake Baratz. The Torre Bianca section was established in 2018, after the council approved its coastal use plan.
Is Benas, Oristano

In the municipality of San Vero Milis, at the southern end of the long Is Arenas beach. An official naturist beach within a Natura 2000 site, known as the «shell beach».

A bay of pebbles and pale sand on turquoise water. There are facilities on the non-naturist part; naturism is tolerated towards the rocks on the right. Close to the future Is Canaleddus area.

Cala Punta Santa Vittoria, Pula

A pebble cove with a rocky seabed a little north of Nora, quiet and surrounded by Mediterranean scrub. Pula council designated it as its naturist beach in the coastal use plan adopted in January 2025. Walk in from the Su Guventeddu car park, taking the lane behind the rocks towards the north-east. No facilities: bring water and something for shade.
Monti Russu, Aglientu

A broad sweep of fine granite sand at the foot of the red Monte Russu headland, in Gallura, with a dune system covered in juniper, pine and tamarisk, and turquoise water. Naturists have used the Lu Littaroni stretch for years: nudity is not officially authorised, but it is well tolerated, even at the height of the season. Take the SP90 Santa Teresa–Castelsardo road, then a dirt track to the car parks. From there take the path and turn left at the first fork, carry on along the boardwalk and, once at the end of it, walk past the beach that opens up in front of you and over the dune beyond: the naturist stretch begins just after.
Sa Marina – Mindeddu, Bari Sardo

A stretch of about 200-250 metres called Mindeddu, after the nuraghe nearby, lying between the beaches of Foxi and Sa Marina. Barisardo council formally set it aside for naturism in its coastal use plan: it is the third recognised naturist beach in Sardinia, after Porto Ferro and Piscinas. Pale sand mixed with pebbles, dunes and thick scrub for shelter, and clear water that deepens quickly. No facilities, with parking along the road.
Portu Sa Ruxi, Villasimius

A bay with a distinctive three-arc shape between Capo Boi and Campus, with very fine white sand, rocks breaking the surface and shallow, transparent water, inside the Capo Carbonara marine protected area. Nudity is tolerated — not authorised — in the cove furthest to the right, the rockiest and most secluded: easier on weekdays and out of season. Access from the SP17 from Cagliari, on a dirt track, with paid parking.
Baia delle Ninfe, Alghero

About 200 metres of beach inside the Porto Conte nature park, established as an authorised naturist beach by Alghero council in a resolution of 12 August 2022. It is not reserved for naturists: it is open to everyone, under a council code of conduct that forbids sexual acts, voyeurism and photographs taken without consent. Reach it from the Des Bangius local road off the SP55, or on foot from Mugoni beach through the pine wood.

An officially authorised naturist beach: 6 km of sand in dune country, close to the Biviere lagoon at Gela. One of the first areas to be recognised in Sicily.

A beach of sand and pebbles, famous for its sand hills. The naturist zone has been recognised since 2022, and is reached on foot from San Saba.
Torre Salsa, Siculiana

A nature reserve managed by the WWF in the Agrigento area, with a wild beach where naturism has been practised along the coast for years.
Eraclea Minoa, Agrigento
Tolerated
A golden sandy beach more than 5 km long, framed by white cliffs. Naturists and other beachgoers get along here with mutual respect.
Capo Feto, Mazara del Vallo

In the protected Capo Feto reserve, a wild beach ringed by Mediterranean scrub and dunes, and a long-standing fixture of Sicilian naturism.
Marianelli, Vendicari (Noto)

In the Vendicari nature reserve, among sand dunes and unusual flora. Wild surroundings, much appreciated by naturists.
Rocce Bianche / Forza D'Agrò, Taormina
Tolerated
Rocce Bianche is known well beyond Italy; not far away, Forza D'Agrò is one of the more recent naturist spots in the Messina area.
Balestrate – Alcamo Marina

A long beach of pale sand with shallow, clear water, in the gulf of Castellammare. The stretch used by naturists is at the eastern end of Alcamo Marina, towards the boundary with Balestrate, in the Calatubo area — already within Alcamo (Trapani). No official recognition: tolerated, and best kept discreet. No facilities.
Capo Gallo, Palermo

A rocky, cliff-lined coast inside the Capo Gallo nature reserve, just beyond Mondello: there is no sand, so you lie on the rocks and climb into the water from them — water shoes are essential. The part used by naturists is towards the lighthouse, on the right-hand side of the inlet, easiest from the Barcarello entrance. There is a charge to enter the reserve. No official recognition: the practice is tolerated, and a petition is under way for a dedicated naturist area.
